For Cellists …
Johnstone-music just just published – once again, and improved – two orchestral works with a special role for solo Cello, in an edition of professional quality.
They are:
ORATION – for Cello solo and Chamber Orchestra
POÈME ÉLÉGIAQUE – for Solo Cello, Violin, Viola, and String Orchestra (the soloists are in this order of importance!)
Really these two works are ‘sister’ works which share the structural and melodic bases. Their style is half-tonal, perhaps being defined as somewhere between Bloch and Shostakovich. They are elegiac, therefore the communicative interpretation is more worthy tan pure virtuosity!
